Finding the right words to sell....

I am so ready to sell the farm and move to town but the only problem is DH and I continue to work on him to no avail.  Actually he would move if I found a place near a winery, bakery, gourmet restaurants and walking trail.  I actually know of such a place but it is one million dollars.  Since selling will not be that easy with this old house I try to think how to make it sound a bit better... like a delightful 114 year old country cottage.  But anyone that watches HGTV knows a 114 year old house has no end of problems... And I want to sell because I know it won't be long until the drain field needs to be replaced ($3500) and the big maples need to be pruned ($2500) and the well pump needs replacing and etc. etc. etc.  It is really a money pit but that would hardly be what you want in an advertisement.

And then there is our road which we own and is 1/2 mile long..  We have to have it graded, graveled and the snow plowed when necessary,  In the spring it gets muddy and wet and   full of ruts when the snow  melts.  Even with a 4 wheel drive winter is a problem..  Here is DH stuck halfway down the road.

But Donald Trump Jr. just bought a 4+ million dollar house and his drive is described  as "a long and picturesque private lane that runs alongside a field.  I will definitely remember that when I want to describe our "lane". Sounds just like our road...right????

But on the positive side it does have its own forest....and speaking of which remember this spring when I laboriously cut up all those strips of old carpet and drug them into the forest???  I only have two large weedy areas where I wanted the carpet to keep the trail clear   without spraying.

And it works... I know they are just weeds but in bloom they are full of bees, butterflies and hummingbirds and later other birds feast on the seeds..

I know just what you mean about wanting to move. We sold up our beautiful barn 3 years ago. We realised that neither of us were getting younger and it is best not to be too isolated. Our single track lane was difficult if it snowed and the land was getting more and more difficult to keep tidy. All you need is the right person, slightly younger, to have vision and see the beauty that is all around you. Your trail looks so pretty and it would be paradise for the right person. It took nearly 3 years to sell but eventually we moved to a quintessential English Village with a pub, village green and a duck pond. The community has been so welcoming.
Good luck with persuading your husband. I hope he comes around to your way of thinking.

Oh Gerry I hear you! Our house is not that old but it has asbestos in the basement, old bathrooms, and definitely not an open floor plan! Would love to move but my husbands next address will be the cemetery!

Dear Gerry .... keep after him, it is probably the move itself that is scaring him, not the actual new place he'd end up in. Your property has lots of character and I am sure a nice younger you would love all it has to offer...perhaps you could tempt a young crazy quilter with all your hidden treasures in the barn ... wink .. wink!! Good luck with your pitch. Hugs .. Helen

It's hard when you both aren't on the same page when it comes to moving. Sometimes the work involved is just too much, not only from the standpoint of the move itself, but also the daily work you deal with now. Our property at our last house was just too big for the two of us and we agreed that we should downsize. I thought DH would want a smaller house/property but broached the idea of an apartment, just to see his response. I was very surprised when he agreed. There are aspects of apartment life we don't like, but overall it's a great lifestyle and DH certainly doesn't miss having to cut grass or deal with snow.
