Challenge Block Done (well almost!)

It'll be done when I find the bag of precious buttons I had been saving for it. Also in the bag is the MOP button I painted with a butterfly and beaded around.. But until that little bag reappears I consider this UFO finished...

When the 2009 Challenge list was announced last January I decided to make a sampler of the things on the challenge many of which were new to me. For instance I had always wanted to do a paisley but had never gotten around to it. The challenge spurred me to explore paisleys on this block and later on other blocks... Since October through December were Christmas and wrap up, they're not included on this block...The year before I enthusiastically tried everything but couldn't remember them all.
Jan. - Painting on fabric, buttons and charms
Feb. - Using hankies (I used 3) cording, and rickrack
March - Shisha, sequins, and paisleys
April - Trees and leaves
May - Insects (I chose butterflies
June - Using words
July - Wings
August - Layered Stitches
Sept.: Flowers (not roses) I chose violets and pansies
I know the 2010 challenge is in the works as I type and I 'm certainly going to do this again next year as it has been a great fun and truly a personal challenge.. This sampler is like a treasure hunt to see if you can find all the things I included from the challenge...
This vintage postcard was my inspiration for this block

Wow, that is about the most beautiful block I've ever seen. I'm thrilled that the Challenge spurred you on and I hope more ladies do it in 2010. Love & hugs, Cathy

What a great idea to make the monthly challenge into a block. When we begin 2010's, I'll have a block ready to go! And I almost forgot....it looks really lovely, very rich and very interesting.

What a fun idea Gerry! I love the colors of it. Did you do the crocheted flowers -- love those. Love the birds and the pansies too -- the whole block is nice!

Gerry: What a great idea. I think in the quiet after Christmas I will piece a block to do the same in 2010. I'm not sure I saw what you plan to do with the block, but it is AWESOME and would make a lovely wallhanging all by itself!

With so much talk on the CQI list of your 2009 Challenge block and doing one in 2010, I had to seek out and find just what everyone was talking about. Wow what a stunning block and I like how you used the postcard for inspiration.
