I have finished the "crème d la crème" part of the block and it is ready for the gold
work bird which I am anxious to start. Please notice the delightful little pearl square buttons lower left. They were on a jacket belonging to my friend, Marilyn Lipmann. For about 3 years every time she wore that jacket I followed her around with my scissors. She finally tired of either the jacket or me (or both) and let me have the buttons. There were several dozen and I adore them.
I left the basting lines in the photo. The outer red is the size of the block and the inner one is where I stop beading.

Too funny. I picture you hiding behind the potted plants with your scissors in hand. I love the block and I'm anxious to see which bird you put on it. I also love that you use so much lace on your blocks. I love the look, just haven't had the right project to try using more....its on my someday list though
I love this one pearls and lace are two of the things I love most.
I love buttons. My mother's father (who would be, of course, my grandfather -- whom I never knew because he died when my mother was a girl) sold buttons and threads for Canadian Celanese. I sewed 6 of his buttons onto the lace sleeves of my wedding gown (3 per sleeve) and have sewn some from time to time on baby sweaters over the years. I have a few left. If you PM me I would happily share a few with you. :-)
a beautiful block ans the buttons are a treasure for sure.
That's hysterical! Love the thought of you 'lying in wait' scissors in hand...your friend maybe a bit jumpy. Funny. Love your work, this is my favorite kind of....um...'flavor'. All creamy and lacy, and oh those lovely bits of pearl. Sweet!!

I once made a comment to a friend in a ladies dress shop that I might just whip out my scissors and chop off a part of a particularly desirable piece of clothing. Then I wondered why the saleslady followed me everywhere I went! She must have thought I meant it.
