And here is a detail shot...
You are looking a 3 1/2 years of work and some of you followed along through every stitch.. There are so many special memories including dozens of vintage black glass buttons I received from followers all over the country... In this shot you can see the black velvet bird carrying the key... a early gift of encouragement from Susan Elliott. All through the fans you will see some rust colored lace fans... also an early gift from Susie Wolfe. Much of the fancy trim was purchased in the garment district of LA on a visit to Susie... And speaking of Susie here we are by the quilt...
You can see she could always use the vest to find me. I am breaking this down into several posts...I want you to hear all about the classes, techniques I learned, my purchases, other quilts etc.
Glad to hear from those who still follow.... I am approaching a milestone of sorts. I am only 16 posts away from 1500 posts. I meant to celebrate 1000 posts but it slipped right on by...

Gerry, You're quilt is beautiful! I was a vendor at the Houston show years ago and I totally know what you mean by overwhelming. Every quilter should try to experience it at least once.
Congratulations on finishing this work of art! Your vest is perfect.
I am so excited for you to have this honor. The first comment I every posted on your blog was to tell you that you are my Crazy Quilt Guru. I read every post, though I don't often comment...sorry, I sometimes feel inspired yet intimidated by your work, knowledge and skill. I am going to enjoy reading about your quilt show experience.
xx, Carol
How wonderful to see the photo of you (and Susie!) with your quilt at Houston! The vest looks fabulous! Such an amazing quilt, and an even more amazing creator!
I hope you will continue blogging ~ your's is one of my MUST reads and if you stopped, it would feel as though I had lost a good friend.
It is so fantastic that you were able to see your quilt hanging in Houston. I can't imagine how proud you are. And the vest looks pretty darn good. Waiting patiently....well, sort of....to hear all about the things you did.
Great photos Gerry! Your quilt looks just stunning. Looking forward to more...
Just gorgeous! Wish you had got a prize but we know there are always very good ones that don't get picked in all shows!
I can only begin to imagine how thrilling this must have been....a memory you will cherish forever.
