Birds are done!

The bluebirds are done and ready to cut out  to add after the hanky-panky quilt is pieced.  These are stitched on a cotton handkerchief backed with fusible tricot interfacing so I can cut them out without fraying.
Their beaks have not been stitched.  I will do that after they are cut out and appliqued to the floral piece.

Marilyn asked if I colored the background on the floral piece and yes indeed I did.   I added a few drops of my all purpose alcohol ink to a tablespoon of water and gave the background a little color.... I was testing on this hanky before I dyed the one with the ribbonwork...

Love these bluebirds! Just wonderful!

(I need to remember to wait to embroider the beaks until after the applique next time I try doing birds ~ it's always a problem area for me)

I was thinking that the birds didn't look like you were working them on felt this time. But they are beautiful no matter what they are stitched on. I just had to order some more fusible knit interfacing - I do have some black left but that doesn't work on anything light. And now that I can stitch again I'm making some blocks for another book. I'm using all kinds of lovely things I've been hoarding :)

They are darling Gerry. I've seen bluebirds every day on my walks this winter. I feel like they are my totem animal and it's great to see them so beautifully stitched.
