This is one of those precious belongings I always wanted to do something special with... well I can see that is never going to happen now and I would love to see it go to someone who would do something with the stories and illustrations.
As you can see it is a small book (41/2" x 6 1/2") and almost 100 years old I found it at a thrift store years ago and fell in love with the illustrations. I always planned to print them on fabric and make a book but time is slipping away.
William Andrew ("Willy") Pogany (August 1882 – 30 July 1955) was a prolific Hungarian illustrator of children's books and others. He is best known for his pen and ink drawings of myths and fables. His works included not only books but magazine covers, stage and movie sets and was widely known for his art pieces as well... more about him ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willy_Pogany
There are numerous illustrations throughout the book.
If you feel that this book should belong to you, tell me why by leaving a comment on my blog and on Sunday September 10 I will let my husband pick a lucky recipient.. I will mail it anywhere in the United States.

Thank you Sharing this treasure.
Love the illustrations in the book. Could see them used for a wonderful mixed media project for wall art as well as garments and crazy quilting projects. So much potential here for creativity!
ReplyDeleteI love, love this art! I love books, especially illustrated children's books. I love the smell. I love the adventure one goes on after reading and consuming the illustrations. This isn't a book, it's a journey to a glorious place in the imagination. The beautiful images would translate so well to a cq Bayeux Tapestry.
ReplyDeleteGerry, thanks for allowing us a peek into your treasure's. This little book is glorious. Thanks for just letting us get a glimpse into this little gem.
I would actually love to read these stories to my grandchildren. Making a crazy quilt would be an added bonus and great heirloom for them to remember our story times.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a wonderful book. I would love to take the illustrations and transfer them into embroidery for a quilt. I would also love to share the illustrations and story with my grandchildren. I have a feeling that they and I would love the stories.
ReplyDeleteThe book is just amazing! I would love the opportunity to turn this into CQ theme quilt/wall hanging.....it has been awhile since I was inspired by anything, but these pictures are doing it. Thanks for your sharing generosity.
ReplyDeleteWhat a special book!! I collect a variety of antiques, but I believe in using them. I don't like them to be just pretty on the shelf, unless that was their original intention! I would read this fir my pleasure and after I move be able to read it to my nieces. And I can see from the pictures you have shared there is some beautiful scrollwork that would translate into my CQ! I would have to see the other artwork befor I could say if I would make transfers of it to a CQ or not. But I would enjoy the book.
ReplyDeleteAs a teacher and lover of classic children's books as well as a quilter, I would love to share the book with children. Every year I do a quilt themed unit that incorporated children's books and quits. Turning some of the illustrations into quilt design would be wonderful to share with future generations of children.
ReplyDeletebest of luck to you lucky USA people such a charming book
ReplyDeleteOh, Gerry, what a treasure! That one ic of the boat reminds me of "Winken, Blinken and Nod", my all-time favorite book! I have a granddaughter due at Thanksgiving. Were I to win your book, I would put aside my current projects and make a crazy quilt to wrap her in at her christening, and I would also keep the book intact so when she comes to see Grandmom (me!), she will have a story tradition, read to her every time. Goodness, the tales that book has seen...What a grand treasure!
ReplyDeleteWhat a generous offer you are doing! I love this book! It was in our public library in my hometown and I checked it out again and again as a child. I loved looking st the pictures and reading the stories! We have a children's book collection of vintage and new children's books, specifically focusing of books with beautiful artwork and timeless messages. It's a beautiful inspiration for Crazy Quilt! What a lucky recipient the winner will be!! You are so kind!!
ReplyDeleteDear Gerry,
ReplyDeleteThis book is such a charmer! Art Nouveau at its finest: I just love the sweeping vines and roses behind the children! Then there's that little mermaid and the fairy... If I were lucky enough to win this book, I would take photos of all the great pictures and post them online to share. This kind of treasure could be used in so many ways and charm so many people!
Thank you,
Lynne
Gerry, Was so pleased to know you share an interest in artwork that also interests me. As a child my mother had the set of the "My Bookhouse" which consisted of six volumes. My favorite was the # three, "Through Fairy Halls". I spent days and hours reading and dreaming through these books. Copyright 1920. The artists were VERY similar to Pogany. Donn P Crane was exceptional and I have done some research on him thru the internet. The stories are rich and feel all children should know and read such stories even in this day and age. I do not need to be on the list to receive this remarkable book but am very happy to know that you noticed it and treasured it enough to want to own it. You are very nice to want another to love it.
ReplyDeleteO my goodness, I would love to have this book, full of wonder and adventure. The vivid colors transporting me to a place I never knew I wanted to go and now.. I need to go. This could inspire me so deeply with my first attempt at a fabric book.
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely book - so many different ways it could be used as the basis for art. Don't count me in the giveaway - I'm in Canada (just wanted to comment on the book).
