Seam Building tools...one old and one new!

This template is something left from my years in graphic design and I only recently started using it for seam building and now it is my favorite tool .  I just love the flexibility it gives me... Now these templates are not cheap and this one is available for $29 at Amazon but I see them on Ebay for as cheap as $7...  This particular one is R-77 Berol eljpse master and is about 6x9"

I love using loopy curves and so love having a guide that fits my seam ideas.  It's also great for adding fancy little finials to curves.

My most recent discovery was quite by accident.  I was going through a bag of craft stuff from the thrift store...and notice "plastic canvas" sheets in several sizes.... One of them had a grid exactly the same as the grid of the graph paper in my seam book... So I cut off a narrow strip and now I whatever I plot out in my seam book I can reproduce exactly.

  1. very handy to have and a bonus finding the plastic canvas the same size, it pays to hoard but I have started to de clutter a bit

  2. I have a 3 of those templates that my dad had. One is circles, one is for electrical drawings and one is for house drawings. There isn't a lot on the last 2 that are useful but some bits are. I never thought of plastic canvas but I'll keep an eye out for some. I'm sure all that I had is gone. You should also check out templates for scrapbooking - I found one at the thrift store and my friend let me make a copy of a set of hers. Lots of good ones in that craft section.

  3. My husband was a draftsman many years ago and I often "borrow" his templates. Very handy indeed:) I have some plastic canvas somewhere. Thank you for that tip. I must give it a try.

  5. This is such a fabulous idea. I also have drafting and scrapbook templates. But, plastic canvas!!!! That's akin to discovering gravity! I hope you will post a couple. I've been saving things like this on 3x5 cards.

I love this blog! It is a master class not just for CQ, but life. I appreciate your humor and generosity. I'm learning things I didn't know that I didn't know. Thank you for sharing your genius is such a sweet and extraordinary way.
