We're on the dry side....

This is typical of the countryside around and south of Spokane, the eastern dry side of Washington state. People usually make the assumption that all of Washington is like the wet coastal areas but the Cascade mountains keep all the moisture on the west side of the state and the rest of Washington is mostly arid and desert. North of Spokane are mountains and forests all the way to Canada....but still very little moisture.

  2. What you didn't mention, Gerry, is how very beautiful it is in Eastern Washington! I love our verdant, wet side of the state and the ocean that goes with it... but I also need an eastern WA fix at least once a year. Where else do you get beautiful, old, dilapitated homesteads, fondly called leaners and squashers? And where else do you get those lovely, rolling hills as seen in your picture?

  3. Ah, the Palouse! That sort of scene surrounds me in every direction down here in Pullman. But in the spring when it's green--oooo, it's like green velvet covered hills.

  4. Gorgeous! Similar to our eastern Colorado prairie.
